ANTENNA PARTS

Every antenna consists of different parts. They are,
1.Reflector
2.Feed
3.Gear system

1.REFLECTOR:
It transmit and receives the signal from the satellite. The signal from the satellite gets reflected to feed.A reflector is a dish-shaped type of parabolic antenna designed to receive micro wave from communications, which transmits data transmissions or broadcasts, such as satellite television. The parabolic shape of a dish reflects the signal to the dish's focal point and now different types of reflectors are available in markets. Mostly reflectors are making with aluminium and few other materials.

2.FEED:
The signals which are reflected from reflector gets into the feed. A feed is a horn antenna used to convey radio waves between the transceiver and the reflector. The feed also select polarization of the waves to be received, which helps to attenuate unwanted signals from adjacent channels and transponders, and from other communications satellites at nearby orbital positions. This can be either horizontal or vertical if the polarization is linear, or clockwise or counterclockwise if it is circular.Certain devices can also allow a feed to accept both linear and circular, though these cause a slight insertion to all incoming signals.
Different feeds have different bands, they are

  • C Band Feed
  • S Band Feed
  • Ex-C Band Feed
  • Ku Band Feed
  • Ka Band Feed

3.GEAR SYSTEM:
Antennas have gear system for moving positions or change the angles. In antenna consists two type gear systems. One is Azimuth gear system, another one is Elevaton gear system. In V-SAT antennas this portion is known as jig.It is equipped with two encoders, two motors and gear system.Whereas in EARTH STATION antennas known as hub.It consists of two encoders, two motors and two jacks.
